LOUISE CAFFREY (Letters, December 29) incorrectly stated that the Netherlands has one of the lowest abortion rates in the EU. According to 2005 figures, the Netherlands has an abortion rate of 15.29% of live births. This is almost twice

More scrutiny of groups engaged in crisis pregnancy counselling

Dear Editor,
While there is much commentary in the media in recent days in relation to crisis pregnancy counselling agencies, it should be noted that Galway For Life has repeatedly sought to raise awareness regarding the need for more scrutiny of certain organisations engaged in support
of such work. In particular, we believe that certain groups in receipt of taxpayers’ money from the Crisis Pregnancy Agency warrant serious examination. For example, the Irish Family Planning Association (IFPA), an organisation which is in receipt of such funds, has openly campaigned for the availability of abortion in Ireland.
